Although pregnancy can be a glorious experience, it’s annoying that so many pregnant women have to deal with unsolicited comments about their growing bellies. Women in the fitness sphere are often even more susceptible to pregnant body-shaming, especially if they’re Instagram-famous like Chontel Duncan, an Australian trainer with over 551,000 followers. When she posted a photo showing how different her pregnant belly looked than her friend Nat’s, who was due a few weeks before her, a lot of people wondered whether Duncan was even healthy in the first place. She was, and she went on to give birth to her son Jeremiah later that month. Now, she and Nat have recreated that sweet photo complete with their real, live babies. Duncan captioned it “Two healthy incredible pregnancies [and] now two healthy baby boys.” Subtext: Told ya so, haters.
In truth, it’s hard to judge how healthy a pregnant woman is based on appearance. The experience varies so much between people, which is the point Duncan was trying to make with the original image. “It’s a fascinating photo to show two completely different body types, builds, heights, whom can both have little miracles within and who both have two completely different lifestyles,”. The side-by-side update showing Duncan with Nat and their two boys shows that no matter how your pregnancy may appear to outsiders, you can wind up with an unbelievably adorable—and healthy—result.
