Plan A Vacation! Travel will be CRAZY Cheap! Here’s why…

Between abundant sunshine and summer Fridays, the warm-weather months are prime time for planning getaways. And if you weren’t already prepping to take a much-needed vacation, let this recent article from Travel + Leisure serve as encouragement. The publication has revealed that this summer will be the cheapest time to travel in years, and further backing this claim, Travelzoo projects that planning a trip now could be more than 40 percent cheaper than last year. Did you really need the extra convincing? Find out why this summer is the ideal time to travel below.

  • Zika. Though there’s nothing positive surrounding the health crisis, the virus is one of the reasons behind a price drop for destinations like the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico. If you’re not planning on getting pregnant, it might be wise to look into booking these destinations as the demand has drastically decreased.
  • Plane ticket prices. On average, flights are reportedly 12 percent cheaper than they were last year, thanks to the drop in oil prices coupled with the decrease in airfare pricing over the past year. Airline competition could lead to you booking a shockingly low roundtrip ticket—get on it now.
  • The strong dollar. The dollar is flexing some muscle as of late, and it’s gained the most value since last year. Take advantage now because the trend might not last into 2017.
  • Room rates. Hotel developments on the rise mean more rooms to fill, and lower prices to do so. The cheapest rooms will be in the biggest markets (think NYC) where hotels are rampant, so try booking a trip to a major hotel hot spot to reap the benefits.
