If you’ve ever run a race, you know it can feel like the finish line is much, much farther away than you expected. One 12-year-old girl from New York knows the feeling all too well, after accidentally running a half-marathon on Sunday.
Lee Adianez Rodriguez had planned to run the Rochester Regional Health Flower City Challenge 5K (that’s 3.1 miles, for running newbies), but accidentally joined the half-marathon that was being held the same day. Lee Adianez told NBC New York that she thought she was running late, so she jumped in with a group of runners without paying attention to which race she’d joined. (The 5K started 15 minutes later!)
Apparently, Lee Adianez realized her mistake halfway through the race when her legs started to hurt, but this strong willed young lady decided to power through it!
“I knew after a while that I was in the half marathon and I was like, ‘I’m going to finish this, I’m going to keep going,’” she says.
She finally crossed the finish line 13.1 miles later with a time of 2:43:31, where her worried mom was waiting for her. “I don’t know how to explain it, it was like time froze,” Lee Adianez says. “I felt like I was on top of the world.” #fitnessgoals.
