Here we are. It’s summer, and along with the change in water consumption (increase), and wardrobe (light and airy), a change in makeup routine is in order to combat the damage sweat does.
Seriously, all ladies go through losing a carefully crafted face when the temperatures skyrocket and the face gets all sweaty. For the most part, if one can avoid doing the face every day, in the summer it’s worth it (just be sure to wear a sunhat). However, there are times that looking good is necessary (like weddings, funerals and state occasions). In that case, here are some options that makeup gurus online agree are helpful.
We all know about waterproof mascara, but there are also products available such as foundation and eyeshadow that are also made not to run. And avoid pencil eyeliners. Liquid goes on easy, and once it is dry doesn’t move.
Yes, putting a primer under foundation and under shadow adds an extra step (and extra products to buy), but it does hold the main feature in place regardless of the season.
Instead of foundation, use a tinted moisturizer
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. It’s the mantra women everywhere know as one of the steps to fighting aging. It can also be a substitute for a foundation in the summer when makeup, in general, is lighter and skin gets darker. For added protection, select one with sunscreen included if facial skin can tolerate it.
Avoid lipsticks that run
This really should be a no-brainer, but not everyone realizes that lipstick is wax based and will melt and run in the heat. This writer has had better luck in the summer with chubby sticks and organic lip balm for keeping moisturized and getting a bit of color (pale pink to match the natural color of lips). Glosses that stay put are also an option.
So, there we have it. In the summer, it is possible to put on a face and not have it melt away in the heat. Given the options, though, going without makeup in the summer (at least when not at church and work) is completely understandable.
