This is a horrible way to use control over others. It is hard to asked permission to go to the rest room in the first place, especially for a girl. She usually carries her purse with her and kind of slinks out of the room almost like she would like to disappear into the wall. Most people knows what is happening and react in a polite, supportive manner. This just make me angry. It is also a misuse of classroom management. I know the girl will never forget this. I feel very sad for her.

this teacher should be FORCED to stand before the entire school and the school board and apologize to this young lady and gentlemen who stood up for her. Then, HIS SORRY ASS SHOULD BE FIRED!

Did anyone get a statement from the teacher. For fairness a written statement from him should be published here.

Shut up.. This isn’t about procedure. It’s about this teacher not having compassion and understanding concerning this young lady. He needlessly embarrassed her each time he opened his mouth. This teacher has control issues.

Seriously? No names were mentioned and even if it was,However he tried to justify what he did would not be reason enough to treat anyone like he did whether he did that to a Male or Female.

The teacher needs to be dismissed immediately. I remember my sixth grade teacher was male. One of the girls started her period and went up to ask permission to go to the nurses office for help. He let her go and then addressed all the other girls in the class. Without going into specifics he told the rest of the girls that if that happened to them they didn’t have to say anything. Just get up and go to the nurse’s office. That was over 50 years ago.

Not just fired. Since he thought it was okay to be publically humiliating a young lady and calling security on the man who stood up for her, his clear picture and his name need to be front page above the fold on Monday morning as he BEGS HER FORGIVENESS on the Sunday evening news channel.
The suspension was a miscarriage of justice. Whoever laid THAT egg needs to remove all evidence of the wrongful suspension from the young man’s school record. After s/he accomplishes that feat, s/he needs to be suspended without pay until s/he completes a ten page report about why hearing BOTH sides of a story is important before LEAPING to the “obvious” conclusion…the wrong one.

No way. Do not take that of my record. I would happily go my entire life explaining why I was suspended in HS. In fact that might be my lead in on every job interview.

I am a teacher and I always allow females unlimited access to the rest room because their biology makes them have to use the bathroom more often than males whether its there period or they have to just use the facilities I allow them all reasonable access to the rest room

All that was needed to be said is “I need to use the Restroom”. Why all the drama?….

It doesn’t sound like there was any drama. Having to ask three times and still be turned down seems totally unreasonable. Why are you defending the teacher who was so obviously in the wrong? Was it you?

God help the teacher that does this to my granddaughter, because that idiot will be dealing with her father (my son) & THEN WITH HER MOTHER! My daughter-in-law will serve his liver to him as pate! Mind you – my grandchildren live with the strictest parent around, but there is a limit to this kind of crap. My granddaughter would walk out of the room and take the consequences, because she knows that even though her parents are strict, they would back her in a case like this.
    The teacher should be suspended.

This is definitely sounds like grounds for a class action procedure on the grounds of sexual discrimination and public harassment.

A teacher told my sisters class (when she was in second grade) that anyone that had to go to the bathroom at a time other than scheduled breaks, had to stay after school for 5 minutes.
Now time wouldn’t matter because our mom taught at the school. We had to stay until the teachers could leave anyway. My sister wouldn’t ask to go, because to her staying after school meant you were in trouble and she never broke the rules. She was very small for her age, so really needed to go more often. She ended up with a bladder infection from holding it too long. When my mom got it out of my sister what had happened, she went to the teacher. The teacher said ohhh I wouldn’t punish her, she never misbehaves. Problem is, my sister only knew what she’d heard, anybody that went would be punished. She didn’t know that the teacher really was talking about some kids that had been abusing privileges.

Pretending this is true (it probably is embellished), let’s look at this from the teachers perspective. This is high school. You’re not a little elementary school kid. You’re arguably an adult. You can deal with being uncomfortable for 50 minutes to 1:20 (the longest a class is on block scheduling). Does it suck? Sure. But there will be plenty of times in your life where your going to be stuck somewhere and not able to what makes you comfortable for an hour or two.

You could see this as a “horrible teacher just being mean to students”… or as the one in a few teachers that aren’t willing to take crap from the increasing entitlement of students. This could have been in the middle of a hall sweep just after 9/11. He might have literally not been allowed to let her go for 30 minutes after the bell rings. She might have also been a problem student. We don’t know the situation… all we know is the PoV of a then high school student.

So Cobalt! What your saying is even after the girl announces in front of the entire class why she needs to go to the bathroom (her period just started) she should sit there for an hour and bleed all over herself and spend the rest of the day with blood all over her. As a woman I can tell you that is very embarrassing!!

can tell cobalt is a guy. Do you really want a breakdown of what happens when one has their period? All the details of why you need some sanitary napkins ASAP, the amount of bleeding and byproducts etc.. Even if it was not her period, it could have been the flu, there is no reason to force a student to not go to the bathroom and risk soiling themselves. This is definitely a need to control issue for that teacher and they should be fired and the hero of a young man should have a blemish-less record. What a fine character of being a man he is already. I’m sure the gal was relieved to have him stand up for her.

I’m guessing she was not talking about discomfort. You sound like you might have a working brain. Can you think of any other reason a female might need to use the rest room if her period just started?

When my daughter started school I told her to always use her manners and be respectful, however if you need to use the bathroom and the teacher says “no”, raise your hand again and say ” I am going to the bathroom then to the office to call my mother”. Problem solved.

No offense, but the rules that any teacher must follow, that stops a female from using the restroom for an UNPREDICTABLE emergency, shouldn’t be a “rule” to begin with…
The rule would be infringing upon the student right to privacy needs.

When a female is having her period, it’s not a matter of just being a little uncomfortable if you don’t go to the bathroom. If you are a moderate to heavy bleeder, your pad or your tampon can overflow, and you will have blood all over your clothes and possibly your chair. You can’t tell way ahead of time that you’re going to overflow.

Did you ever start your period during class? 50 minutes of bleeding most often isn’t all that comfortable or sanitary.

Unfortunately, it’s the nice, obedient kids that wind up in situations like this. A rebellious girl would have just walked out when the teacher said “no.” I was one of those kids who always followed the rules to the nth degree. But I had a male geometry teacher who was so insufferable he brought out a feeling of rebellion in me. He spent a lot of class time shooting off his mouth about local political issues, which none of the students cared about. If a kid even turned his head sideways during those harangues, the teacher would throw whatever he had in his hand at the kid — usually chalk or a book. I realized that even though I was painfully obedient, I might unwittingly incur his wrath and get something thrown at me. So I decided that if that ever happened, I would try to catch whatever he threw, and grab my books and purse and run straight to the office — with his book or chalk. I was almost hoping he would do it so that I could get him in trouble, along with me.

If this was one of my daughters the low life a-hole that calls himself a teacher would be taking a trip to the hospital for corrective surgery before he was fired. He should never be allowed to teach again.

My son asked a teacher in middle school to go to the bathroom. She denied him repeatedly and he begged her. Still no was her answer….at the end if class…he stayed in his seat and she told him to get to his next class…but he didnt want to…he couldnt hold it and peed himself. She took him to the office with a jacket on his waist to not let others see…and they gave him clean shorts…but when they called me
.. I was there in record time. Yes some kids use excuses to get out of class. But when a kid keeps asking to begging…they need to go!! Lets say that she and i had words and he was taken out of her class and they learned to not treat my kids like crap and hopefully never let it happen to another.
